Per Game Averages:
Player A – 6.3 ppg, 1.3 apg, 0.7 topg, 0.2 spg, 45.8 fg%, 42.3 3pt%, 90.0 ft%, -0.3 +/-
Player B – 8.5 ppg, 1.8 apg, 1.9 topg, 0.5 spg, 43.2 fg%, 37.5 3pt%, 84.6 ft%, -4.6 +/-
Player C – 7.8 ppg, 2.2 apg, 1.1 topg, 0.6 spg, 43.2 fg%, 38.9 3pt%, 62.5 ft%, -1.3 +/-
Really difficult to gauge from the stats above which player is playing the best.
Now let’s look at those same stats Per 36 Minutes:
Player A – 21.5 ppg, 4.3 apg, 2.5 topg, 0.7 spg, 45.8 fg%, 42.3 3pt%, 90.0 ft%, -1.1 +/-
Player B – 16.4 ppg, 3.5 apg, 3.7 topg, 1.0 spg, 43.2 fg%, 37.5 3pt%, 84.6 ft%, -8.9 +/-
Player C – 12.3 ppg, 3.5 apg, 1.7 topg, 0.9 spg, 43.2 fg%, 38.9 3pt%, 62.5 ft%, -2.0 +/-
You would obviously play Player A the most, right?
Not if you are Keith Smart.
Player A (Jimmer Fredette) 10.6 minutes per game.
Player B (Isaiah Thomas) 18.7 minutes per game.
Player C (Aaron Brooks) 22.9 minutes per game.
The only justification I have heard of Jimmer not getting more minutes is the idea that Jimmer gives up so many points on defense that it offsets his offensive production. Not sure if that is true though.
That certainly is an argument against Jimmer. There are times he looks horrible out there – lost, not trying, etc. He has improved this year over last year which is a positive sign.
